Easy Gorgoria Recipe

INGREDIENTS:

  • 3 tsp baking powder
  • 6 cups all-purpose flour
  • 250 g butter
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 2 eggs, beaten (add evaporated milk to make 1 and 3/4 cup mixture)
  • cooking oil (for frying)

For the Glaze:

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 4 tbsp water
  • 1 tsp syrup

HOW TO COOK:

  1. Sift flour and baking powder together into a bowl.
  2. In another bowl, cream the butter then add the sugar.
  3. Add the egg-milk mixture alternately to the flour-baking powder mixture. Knead well.
  4. Form dough into thumb-size ovals and press with fork tines to mold into gorgoria shaped pieces.
  5. Heat cooking oil and fry gorgorias until golden brown.

For the Glaze:

  1. Make the glaze by boiling together sugar, water, and syrup until thickened or it reaches the ‘thread’ stage (when the mixture forms a thread when a fork is dipped into the mixture when lifted). It’s a bit tricky to coat the gorgorias if the consistency is too thick.
  2. Pour glaze into gorgorias until well coated. Do this quickly since the glaze will crystallize immediately.
